Design thinking

Design thinking is a human-centered approach to problem-solving that puts real user needs at the core of every decision. It typically moves through five stages: empathize, define, ideate, prototype, and test, though teams often loop back and forth between them rather than following a strict order.
Instead of jumping straight to solutions, design thinking encourages you to deeply understand the problem first, explore many possible ideas, and validate them quickly with users before committing to a final direction.
Why does Design thinking matter?
Design thinking matters because it helps teams solve the right problem, not just build a solution faster. By grounding decisions in real user research and testing ideas early with cheap prototypes, you reduce the risk of investing time and money into something nobody actually needs.
For example, a team redesigning a checkout flow might interview frustrated customers, sketch several alternative flows, and test paper prototypes with real users before writing a single line of code. This keeps the process cheap to change while ideas are still rough.
